The title may piss some people off, but I am sticking with it.
Being a writer is a whole hell of a lot easier than being a visual artist. I am not saying that being a writer isn't as good as being a visual artist, just that it is easier to be a writer. It's hard out there for the visual artist because the visual artist must overcome the same obstacles as the writer, then they have to pay to overcome the rest. They have to pay A LOT.
Any graphic artist knows that art software is EXPENSIVE. Sure there is GIMP, but professionals tend to shy away from it, and generally, if you are going to be a graphic artist, you need hundreds of dollars worth of software and hardware.
Writers can download openoffice instead of shelling out loads of cash on microsoft word, and the world wouldn't know the difference. Really, no one can look at a sheet of text and seriously say that what is written is mediocre compared to the work of writers who use expensive software.
I can't afford a tablet or photoshop, so I am doomed to stay behind the other graphic artists until I graduate from college. But, I can write my heart out and no one would say that my medium doesn't do my subject justice.
Writing is about skill only. Visual art is about skill AND how much one is willing to pay to be great.
But one thing is for sure, writing sure is harder than photography.

DO NOT ENTER. ARTWORK SHOULD BE IN PROGRESS...BUT I'M PROBABLY PROCRASTINATING.
